Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the ALCS.
Trailing by two runs, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "This is such an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now connected for 23 October home runs, making him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"It's hard to imagine another player in the world that I'd choose in that spot besides him with his October magic," noted Schneider.
The Mariners, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team that has never reached in a championship series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but commended their work this season.
"This is a unique group. Sadly that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he continued.
Toronto's team secured the World Series on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
