The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
