The East African nation Receives Cultural Treasures Following a 100-Year Residence in a German Family
Around Twelve cultural items have been officially restored to Ethiopia following staying by a household from Germany for over ten decades.
These treasures, initially acquired in the 1920's by Germany's diplomat to Ethiopia Franz Weiss and his wife his partner, were delivered on midweek to the Ethiopian Studies Institute at Addis Ababa University.
This set contained royal crowns, protective shields and artistic works, all regarded as culturally important in the nation.
"These artefacts still stand as a emblem of the enduring and amicable relationship between Germany and Ethiopia," said Germany's envoy, the envoy to Ethiopia.
Professor a professor, whose father was delivered during the household's diplomatic posting in Ethiopia, delivered the objects at a event attended by the Minister of Tourism Selamawit Kassa.
He said that the family's aim to restore the artefacts was to "share their beauty with the audience and safeguard the heritage and history tied to my father's beginning."
The items were either considered donations or buys, as stated by the relatives.
"We want to thank Professor Weiss's relatives for actively demonstrating their profound love for the nation by carefully maintaining these artifacts and crucially ensuring their repatriation to their rightful homeland," said the official.
The minister continued that the pieces would in the near future be made accessible to the people for study and academic study, calling the action a landmark in protecting Ethiopia's cultural heritage.
"Initiatives are ongoing to repatriate historical items that are located in the custody of collectors and organizations throughout the planet," she said.
During imperial control in Africa, numerous of traditional artefacts were looted.
This call by African countries for the restoration of looted artefacts has been met with certain success in recent years - although some objects are just on loan.
Back in two years ago, the German government was the first nation to return a portion of the renowned Benin artifacts to Nigeria in an attempt to address its "dark colonial history."
