New York Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, his attitude was encouraging. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a child.

“My initial concern, he just had a kid,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was projected as an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
