Iranian Forces State Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported debris fell on a populated district in the capital, resulting in some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
