Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say early analysis show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for information.

A senior political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
