Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory of course but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase such as this with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
